new ski speed record to be based on space technology

“Using skis stabilised by a mechanism originally developed for ESA's Rosetta spacecraft, the aim is to reach an astonishing 255 km/h down the slopes. ”

Skis slide on a thin film of water, created by the heat from friction melting snow beneath the skis. This mechanism will dampen vibrations, so maximising ski contact with the water film on which they slide.
