the left and the politics of personal destruction - on advertising

"Driven by blind rage over the failure of voters to elect Hillary Clinton, the left's establishment has targeted anyone related to Donald Trump (even his 10-year-old son, Barron) for abuse. It is one thing to fabricate videos to show his father Fred as a racist – after all, he's a dead white male and can't defend himself."

"...52 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the first lady, which is 16 percent higher than it was on the day that Donald Trump was sworn in..."

"The Ivanka Trump boycott appears to have backfired.

One month after several brand name retailers announced they would no longer carry the 35-year-old’s clothing and accessories, Ivanka Trump’s women’s fashion line has seen record February sales.

The collection said they had some of the highest performing weeks since the brand was launched last month. “Since the beginning of February, they were some of the best performing weeks in the history of the brand,” Abigail Klem, the company's new president, told Refinery 29. “For several different retailers Ivanka Trump was a top performer online, and in some of the categories it was the [brand’s] best performance ever.”

E-commerce aggregator Lyst confirmed the report, stating that from January to February, Ivanka Trump sales increased 346%. It also found that February 2017 brand sales had increased by 557 per cent when compared to average orders in 2016. The brand was ranked as no 11 in sales on Lyst for the month of February, a sharp increase from no 550 in January"

In sales there is a truism, 'All publicity is good publicity'.

Rookie salesmen are told not to knock other people's products, and to sell the merits of their own products.

2016 us presidential election campaign - personal attacks v. policy

Vast amounts of Hillary Clinton's political ads were personal attacks, whereas the preponderance of Donald Trump's were on policy.

substance of 2016 presidential advertising

"There was a huge imbalance in advertising at the presidential level in 2016, with Clinton and her allies pummeling Trump and his allies in almost every media market in the country. [...] And yet in spite of those advantages, Hillary Clinton lost many of the states that saw the most political advertising."

" Although the Clinton campaign may have viewed the news media’s focus on Donald Trump as beneficial to them, they also claimed to have trouble getting coverage of policy statements. Yet the Clinton campaign itself did not focus on policy in its own messaging either, a tactic that very well may have hurt their candidate..."

"... the Clinton campaign overwhelmingly chose to focus on Trump’s personality and fitness for office (in a sense, doubling down on the news media’s focus), leaving very little room for discussion in advertising of the reasons why Clinton herself was the better choice. Trump, on the other hand, provided explicit policy-based contrasts, highlighting his strengths and Clinton’s weaknesses, a strategy that research suggests voters find helpful in decision-making [...] . These strategic differences may have meant that Clinton was more prone to voter backlash and did nothing to overcome the media’s lack of focus on Clinton’s policy knowledge, especially for residents of Michigan and Wisconsin, in particular, who were receiving policy-based (and specifically economically focused) messaging from Trump."

obama - is trump a russian spy?

"Moreover, it cannot be glossed over that, at the very time it appears the Obama Justice Department was seeking to surveil Trump and/or his associates on the pretext that they were Russian agents, the Obama Justice Department was also actively undermining and ultimately closing without charges the criminal investigation of Hillary Clinton despite significant evidence of felony misconduct that threatened national security."

"In summary: the Obama administration sought, and eventually obtained, authorization to eavesdrop on the Trump campaign; continued monitoring the Trump team even when no evidence of wrongdoing was found; then relaxed the NSA rules to allow evidence to be shared widely within the government, virtually ensuring that the information, including the conversations of private citizens, would be leaked to the media."

is trump's victory just part of a worldwide wave of nationalism?i

From a correspondent:
"From the perspective of many anxious op-ed writers in Western Europe, Trump isn't an anomaly. Instead, he's part of a dramatic populist surge occurring across Western democracies at the moment, on both the political left and the right."

There are great differences.Donald Trump is very bright, and the USA is very big and powerful.

America has just suffered eight years of a marxist fool.
Britain is also shaking off socialists.

France has a socialist with record low polling.

This is not 'just about' nationalism. This is reaction to the damage socialism does to any society. Socialists actually want to damage societies. It is one of their tactics for establishing cult dictatorships.

Jeremy Corbyn is a minnow trying to ape Trump, but he is just another Marxist trying to creep to power by any bluff that will work for him.
Socialists believe the end justifies the means. A major means is lying.

No-one can really take on the USA because it is capable of building a working autocracy, and this is because it is so rich and powerful.
No-one else can do that with their current conditions.

And the USA has a ginormous moat!

Such as made by my correspondent comparisons are futile. Britain has a smaller moat, the continent has been a bunch of quarreling children with different local languages for centuries who've all been regularly invaded.

The English-speaking world does not appreciate how lucky it is.

america's new day of freedom

The end of eight years of immature marxism, the end of a racist regime.

The end of an enabler of Islam, the end of a scofflaw.

The end of a spendthrift and destroyer of business.

What a mess he has left.

Can even Donald Trump repair the chaos?
