kerry’s grades at yale - finally released

smelly plant is flowering

A Titan Arum (Amorphophallus titanum) is in the process of flowering in a greenhouse at Wisconsin Madison University. It last flowered in 2001. Flowering is unpredictable and there can be many years, and even decades, between such events. The flowering period lasts one to four days, when the flower throws off a pungent smell of rotting meat. The Titan Arum is a giant plant, this one’s central fleshy spadix had reached a height of 98 inches (2.49 metres) on 9 June. The University is providing periodic video reports in various formats, and the glasshouse is open to outside visitors until midnight during the flowering period. There are many other Titan Arums in public displays, including at the Botanical Gardens, Kew, near London.
